ABOUT US
Northwest Physiotherapy Group
Northwest Physiotherapy Group relocated to new purpose built Physiotherapy rooms at Essendon in July 2016. NWPG services surrounding areas of Essendon including Moonee Ponds, Strathmore, Brunswick West And Niddrie.
Northwest Physiotherapy Group was first established as Moonee Ponds & Essendon Physiotherapy Clinic in 1990. The clinic was relocated to Moonee Ponds and the Roxburgh Park arm of the business was sold in October, 2013 to another Physiotherapy group to consolidate the business, allowing the principals to focus on the main Moonee Ponds physiotherapy clinic.
The two principal northwest physiotherapy experts Russell Visser and Graham Nelson are experienced physiotherapists.
Russell was an AFL physiotherapist for the Western Bulldogs Football Club (formerly Footscray Football Club) from 1988 to 1996.
Graham has a Masters in Manipulative Therapy. They have developed close links with local doctors, specialists, sporting clubs and gyms.
Treatment is based on careful and thorough assessment and our northwest physiotherapy experts participate in continuing education both external and in-house to maintain the highest standards of treatment. We communicate with other health professionals and have excellent referral links with sports doctors, specialists such as orthopaedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and rheumatologists, podiatrists and personal trainers.

Ridgway Method
The Essendon physio clinic has a ‘hands on approach’ to treatment, a systematic whole body assessment protocol (Ridgway Method) and a strong bias toward an active participation by the client in injury recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
This can depend on several factors:
How long you have had the condition.
The severity of the condition, ie how much it impacts your lifestyle.
Whether there are multiple conditions to address.
The number of dysfunctions we find on objective testing.
How quickly you are able to complete the RM assessment and treatment process.
In our experience people who go through this process in the shortest possible time achieve their desired result more quickly.
In the majority of cases, going through our systematic whole body approach, in 2-3 hours of assessment and treatment, we will either be a long way towards achieving your good result, or know how much further treatment will be required.

It may surprise you to read that the common understanding of how pain arises has recently been shown to be inaccurate. Read Why Am I In Pain?
It is not unusual to feel sore or to have light side effects within 12 to 24 hours after the session. You might feel slightly bruised around the treatment area and few people might show a faint bruise.
You can also experience slight dizziness or nausea or feel “washed out” and tired after the treatment. These are normal short term responses and usually indicate that we are changing significant dysfunctions in your body that are part of your condition.
Please let your Physiotherapist know if you experience any unusual symptoms. The key point to remember is that the worse a condition is, the more ‘reactive’ the underlying cause can be. Your physiotherapist will discuss ways in which treatment soreness can be minimized.
Covid-19 Policies
The Northwest physiotherapy team is committed to ensuring the safety and health of all our clients and team, and we have put in place policies and procedures around the Covid-19 pandemic to ensure our clinic is safe and hygenic. These policies will be updated as new information is released and public restrictions change.
