A 68 year old retiree suffered from intermittent dizziness for 2 years. He had seen numerous specialists (including an ENT specialist and neurologist), and had numerous investigations but no abnormality was detected or diagnosed.
He had trouble looking up or down, rolling over in bed, bending down, as all these movements triggered his vertigo. When he had his dizzy spells, he felt as if everything was spinning.
On examination he demonstrated positive with the Dix-Hallpike test with nystagmus (beating of the eyes).
It kind of looked like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtS2muvjFbM
After performing the Epley manoeuvre on him, his dizziness was cleared straight away. He was surprised that a simple manoeuvre cleared the dizziness which he had been experiencing for 2 years!
